Slimline Poppy Card

Hi Everyone! Today I'm sharing a slimline card I made for the This or That Instagram hop. Check out IG to see everyone's creations!

I don't believe I've ever made a full slimline card before. I've create mini slim line cards. I have a a lot of mini slim line bases and envelopes in my stash. I knew for this hop I wanted to try something different.

I've had the Tonic Studios Poppies Floral Split Strips die set for a while, but haven't used it yet. I couldn't find tutorials on how to use it except one video showing the Split Strips line, so I had to play around, make some mistakes, to figure it out. In the end, I think it came out great!

There are 5 dies in this set. I took the largest outline die and cut some Bazzill Wax Lips cardstock. For the background of the strip panels, I cut some scrap watercolor paper using the second largest die. I like that the watercolor paper is thicker, not a pure white, and textured. In order to cut the black outline, you have to use the 2nd largest die and the 3 small flower dies together. That way the outline will cut out in the correct shape. I glued the black outlines onto the watercolor pieces. For the poppy flower inlay, I just used the flower dies to cut from the Wax Lips cardstock. This will cut out the inside pieces. I paper pieced the flower sections into the black outline. Finally, I adhered the floral sections onto the Wax Lips background I first cut out.

To make a slimline base, I cut a piece of white cardstock to 7"x8.5" and scored at 3.5." The card base comes out to 3.5"x8.5." I glued on the poppy strip towards the top of the base. For the sentiment, I used Cut Apart Sentiment Strips from Unity Stamp Co. These strips come in both black with white lettering and white with black lettering in the same pack. I chose the black with white lettering. I adhered that towards the bottom with a black foam strip. I made sure to go around the edges of the sentiment strip with a black marker to cover the white core.

For the final touches, I used Red Shimmer glitter brush marker from Scrapbook.com on the poppy petals. I also added some dark gem stickers from Honey Bee Stamps.

I hope you enjoy my card! Let me know if you ever made a slimline card.
